Reader question: How do you get in the zone to write?

I use different techniques to help me. If I’m having a bad day and can’t seem to focus, I close the office door until I’m done writing for the day. If that doesn’t work then I put music on to help me with a particular scene. And if I’m still not able to get in the zone, I go for a long walk. We live in a very rural area of Ohio so it’s usually quiet and I can focus and talk myself into what I need to do. And if none of that works, I give up and play Mahjong on the computer.
